Seat-sharing talks to start after VM Sudheeran's Yatra
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran’s Jana Raksha Yatra coming to an official end on Tuesday, the immediate step before the leadership is to kick off the talks on seat sharing between the allies as well as within the party.
AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi will inaugurate the concluding public rally of the Yatra at Shanghumuhgam on Tuesday at 5 pm.
The imminent Assembly elections, have led to both the factions keeping their counsel and not resorting to mudslinging over the revelations being made in the solar as well as in the bar scams. Mr. Gandhi will be convening the KPCC executive meeting on Wednesday morning.
Senior Congress leader A. K. Antony held talks with leaders on a one to one basis today at the KPCC office. Many of the leaders have reportedly told him about the prospects of the Congress and the UDF and what corrective measures have to be taken.
In some districts, Janaraksha Yatra did not evoke much interest among the public which has led to some worry among the KPCC leadership. To a certain extent, Sudheeran could divert the attention away from the controversial revelations being made before the solar commission when he challenged CPM politburo leader Pinarayi Vijayan’s silence over the Lavalin issue.
But a KPCC general secretary told DC that on the last day of the Janaraksha Yatra here today, it did not garner much attention among the public at Nemom, Vattiyoorkavu, Peroorkada and Kazhakoottam Assembly constituencies.
“The Yatra was successful to some extent. But there have been too many Yatras at the same time which have not gone down well with the public. But once the Yatra is over, the KPCC leadership will be busy with seat sharing mechanisms and that is not going to be easy”, said a KPCC general secretary.
