KOCHI: Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has become the first university in the state to move all its admission processes into the online platform.
IT services major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has bagged the contract for the first online common admission test (CAT) for admission to the various programmes offered by the varsity in the academic year 2015-16.
“TCS will be the service provider for the computer-based nationwide test. Our guidelines for the test will be similar to that of All India Council for Technical Education and UPSC exams,” said K.K. Saju, Director of the International Relations and Academic Admissions (IRAA) wing, which conducts the admission process
The processes that Cusat has moved to online platform are registration, hall ticket generation, examination centre allocation, conduct of entrance examination, result declaration, ranklist preparation, allotment, counseling and admission. “We are probably among the first universities in the government sector to do so in the country also,” said Saju.
He said that a total of 42,000 students register for CAT every year of which 30,000 appear for the UG test. In the case of PG courses a total of 5000 students appear for test.
PG test is conducted only in Kerala. He also said that biometric scan in the conduct of examination will rule out the scope of impersonation.
