Narendra Modi slams past; call to beat project deadlines

The Prime Minister said the refinery had set a record of sorts when it came to the Centre's Make in India initiative.

Paradip (Odisha): Prime Minister Narendra Modi blamed the Congress for the delay in implementation of plans and policies, and said the the government was trying to bring a culture of completing projects in time.

“We are trying to bring a work culture where projects are conceived in time and completed on time. The initiatives have to be futuristic and completed before the designated time period.

“Delays shouldn't occur as they affect people,” Mr Modi said while addressing a public rally here after dedicating Indian Oil Corporation’s largest greenfield refinery with a capacity of 15-million metric tonnes per annum at Paradip to the nation.

He was of the view that the tender process, agitations and unnecessary procedures delayed projects as this affected the people.

He said, “My Congress friends often say ‘it was started by us’. I don't relish such ceremonies, rather I would have been happy if the projects were completed 15 years ago (well in time).”

He described the Rs 34,555-crore refinery as Odisha’s ‘vikas deep’ of progress.

The refinery will produce 78 crore kg of liquefied petroleum gas, 500 crore kg petrol, 680 crore kg disel and 120 lakh quintal petroleum coke.

The project will primarily produce BS-IV fuels and serve the eastern and south-eastern markets, apart from exports.

The refinery is the largest on the country’s eastern coast, and is equipped with the latest technology, including IOCL’s own patented IndMax technology for better and higher output of LPG.

The Prime Minister said the refinery had set a record of sorts when it came to the Centre’s Make in India initiative.
