Muslim to fund temple renovation in Malappuram

Sulaiman Haji to bear cost of 144 kilograms of copper.

MALAPPURAM: The finial of the 400-year-old Muthuvallur Durga Bhagavati Temple near Kondotty in Malappuram is all set to get an additional glitter of religious harmony.

As the renovation works of the temple go in full swing, a Muslim expat in the neighborhood, Sulaiman Haji, who runs educational institutions in Saudi Arabia, came forward to offer a copper plating that costs around one lakh rupees to be laid out atop the temple.

According to the temple administration, the ongoing renovation works of the temple are being done after a long gap of half a century.

“To give more protection to the rooftop of the circular shaped temple, we have decided to lay out copper plating. The Haji has assured us to bear the cost of 144 kilograms of copper for the plating atop the roof,” temple committee president Chandran Pullithodi told DC.

The Muslim neighbors’ active participation has also added more glow to the tantric rituals organised to launch the renovation works on January 20.

“Our Muslim friends had sponsored the pandal to accommodate more than 500 devotees,” said an executive committee member.
