G Viswanathanlauds actor Siddharth's rescue role in Chennai floods

Actor Siddharth, in his address, began asking the students whether he should talk in English, Tamil, Telugu or in Hindi.

Vellore: Hailing actor Siddharth rescue role in the recent Chennai floods as quite appreciable, the VIT University founder-chancellor Dr G Viswanathan on Sunday described the former as a ‘star among human beings’, at the valedictory of the 'Riveria-2016' here at which the actor was the chief guest.

While carrying out his duties as an actor, Siddharth managed to reach all necessary materials to the flood-hit people, the chancellor said, adding, "besides education, helping the needy in time is more important and this is what I like most."

The 'Riviera function' would always be cherished by students who participated in it, Viswanathan noted.

Actor Siddharth, in his address, began asking the students whether he should talk in English, Tamil, Telugu or in Hindi. The students , who were enthralled by his presence, wanted him to come near them from the stage.

Bowing to their request, he got down from the podium with a mike on hand and went towards the girl students’ enclosure waving his hands and stood for few minutes. Then he went to the boys' enclosures and announced that his film 'Jil, Jung, Jug' was being released on February 12.

He wanted them to see the film, and raise their voice just as they did when they saw him on the dais. Then he introduced the other two actors who had acted with him as Jung (Avinash) and Jug (Sarath) and sang with them a number from the film ‘Shoot the Kuruvi’.

Later, Dr G.Viswanathan and Siddharth distributed 'Riviera -2016' trophies & Cups to the winners from various colleges and universities.

Sastra University, Thanjavur, had won the first prize of Rs 1 lakh with a trophy for its cultural participation, while the second and third prizes went to SRM Engineering college with Rs 50,000 and PSG Arts & Science College, Coimbatore, with a cash prize of Rs 25,000 respectively. The 'Overall Riviera -2016' trophy went to VIT University for its outstanding performance in the sports events.

The Pro-VC Dr S.Narayanan, vice presidents Sankar Viswanathan, Sekar Viswanathan and G.V.Selvam felicitated the occasion.
