Hyderabad: Encroached wall of park knocked

Demolition work began around 10.30am.

Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board demolished an unauthorised wall built across a community park in Sanjeev Nagar colony of Mahendra Hills area on Monday, after residents complained to the authorities. The board is also considering a proposal from residents to protect the park.

Demolition work began around 10.30am. This paper had earlier reported regarding encroachment on the park. Residents had for months been requesting the cantonment board to look into encroachment at the park. The residents said some people who ran their business from a shed beside the park had encroached into the park. Details of those people are not known yet.

Residents were willing to pay from their own pocket to protect the park and are seeking permission for the same. “The board members said they do not have funds now. We have submitted a requisition to the board saying we would like to develop the park with our own money. We will build a fencing wall to protect it from the land grabbers,” said a resident of Sanjeev Nagar Colony, Mr. Bandi Naresh. “The board officials have responded positively to our request. We will protect the park from all disruptive elements.”

Cantonment authorities said on receiving a complaint they inspected and found that the compound wall falls in the park area. So they demolished it. “A survey needs to be done to reassess the borders and we can then consider giving permission to the colony association to build a fence and develop it,” an official from the engineering section of SCB said.
