Mesram Adivasis return with Godavari jal

Women of the clan are busy preparing for the Nagoba jatara.

Adilabad: A team of Adivasis of the Mesram clan have started their return journey with the sacred gangajal collected from the river Godavari, to Nagoba temple in Indravelli in Adilabad district.

On Sunday, the Mesram clan reached Gouri village in Jainoor mandal in Kumarambheem Asifabad district where they tied the vessel (jhar) containing the sacred gangajal to a tree.

Mr Mesram Kusumrao of Pippaldhari village in Adilabad mandal said they would start the second leg of their journey from Gouri village on January 11 and perform puja at Indramai temple in Indravelli on January 12. They will then proceed towards Keslapur and stay under a banyan tree until January 16 evening.

A special puja will be performed at the Nagoba temple late at night on January 16.

The gangajal has been collected in a jhar made of bronze from Hasthinamadugu. They make this journey on foot every year. They started out on December 25.

The traditional rituals regarding the Nagoba jatara are going on smoothly. Women of the Mesram clan are busy preparing for the jatara and its traditional rituals.

District officials are supervising the arrangements for the Nagoba jatara. More Adivasis are expected to attend this time to show their strength and unity in the wake of the rift between the Adivasis and Lambadas.
