Temple building in name of deceased person: Kerala High Court
Kochi: The Kerala High Court has permitted the secretary of a temple advisory committee to dedicate a two-storied building in the name of his deceased father. The court issued the order on a petition filed by Mr Raj Menon, secretary, Kandankavu Bhagavathy temple advisory committee, Kureekadu, Tripunithura, seeking to dedicate the floor in the name of his late father K.K. Menon. The Cochin Devaswom Board had denied sanction for the construction.
Earlier, the CDB had authorised the temple advisory committee to build the ground floor of the proposed building. The work was to be carried out through the president as nominee. However, without obtaining sanction from the CDB, one more floor was constructed for which the CDB declined sanction.
The secretary argued that the extra floor may be treated as a dedication to the temple but that he should be permitted to keep a board showing the work as dedication in the name of his deceased father.
The secretary produced materials to contend that such dedication is permitted in other temples. The CDB argued that it has no practice of permitting dedication in the name of any particular person. However, the court issued an order granting permission for such dedication and allowed the secretary to place a board stating dedication to his deceased father.
