Public cheer for Telangana cops

Almost none of them seemed to believe the police’s “encounter theory”.

Hyderabad: Hundreds of people gathered at Chattanpally on the outskirts of the city where the accused in the Disha rape case were shot dead by police early Friday morning.

They brought with them flowers to pay homage to the victim. They placed them in large numbers at the spot under the bridge where her dead body was found. The mound of flowers had grown large by the evening.

Some flowers were reserved for the police as well. As police vehicles made their way through the tunnel under the bridge, they were showered with flowers amid slogans such as “Jai Telangana police”, “Jarigindi Jarigindi Nyayam Jarigindi (justice has been delivered)” and “Jai Telangana”. Slogans hailing Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao were also made.

People also hailed Cyberabad police chief V.C. Sajjanar for apparently delivering justice to Disha’s parents.

Almost none of them seemed to believe the police’s “encounter theory”. Shiva, who had come to the location all the way from Jeedimetla, said: “Whatever the truth about this encounter may have been, it was a good step. We did not want the four accused to enjoy their life in jail. I am glad that they are dead. In fact, all rapists should be killed the same way.”
