Vijayawada: Young voters a ray of sunshine
Vijayawada: As many as 83,122 of the 2,15,755 new voters enrolled in the 16 Assembly constituencies Krishna district are from Central, East and West segments of Vijayawada city, a pointer to the enthusiasm shown by urban youngsters in democracy.
The highest number of new voters enrolled was 29,435 in Vijayawada Central Assembly constituency, 27,309 in Vijayawada East and 26,378 in Vijayawada West.
Earlier, the Telugu Desam, YSR Congress, Jana Sena and Communist parties concentrated on getting youngsters to enrol as voters in the three constituencies in Vijayawada city, setting up voter registration help camps in the city to attract youngsters to their parties.
The three city MLAs — Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, G. Rammohan and Jalil Khan had led the efforts to get the youth enrol as voters in their respective constituencies. Youth wings of the YSRC and Jana Sena too worked hard to get youngsters register as voters and also join their party which increased the voters largely in three seats of the city.
As many as 18,892 new voters were registered in Mylavaram followed by Machilipatnam with 15,562, Penamaluru 14,379, Jaggayyapeta 12,288, Gudivada 11,332, Gannavaram 10,597, Nuzvid 7,692, Thiruvuru 7,402, Nandigama 7,343, Pamarru 7,195, Kaikaluru 6,913, Avanigadda 6,842 and 6,196 new voters were enrolled in Pedana Assembly segments.
B. Rama Raju and Sk. Saleem form Wynchipet in Vijayawada said that they were happy to get registered as voters and were excited to be able to cast their votes in the forthcoming elections.
TD and YSRC leaders said that youngsters will be deciding factor between victory and defeat.
