RTC drivers to miss chance to vote

However, the last date for the postal ballot ended on November 30.

Hyderabad: Around 8,000 RTC employees deployed outside their hometown and 2,000 employees posted on election duty will not be able to vote on Friday, and have approached the Election Commission to allow them to use the postal ballot system.

The EC responded positively to their request but no orders have been issued, according to information provided by the TSRTC Telangana Jatiya Mazdoor Union.

However, the last date for the postal ballot ended on November 30.

Union general secretary K. Hanumanth Mudiraj said, “Unlike other employees, our duties were not fixed. Besides, many drivers would be on interstate duties, long duties and night shifts and it would be difficult for them to vote the same day, so we have asked the EC for another chance to avail of the postal ballot.”

They also demanded an alternate holiday on December 11 as they would be on duty, or to provide a day’s wages.

Around 2,500 cab drivers who are on election duty will not be able to vote. Their duties were requisitioned only a couple of days ago. Taxi unions are requesting for a way out to cast their vote.
