Nizamabad: Polling personnel, including Armed forces have reached their respective polling stations in all the nine Assembly constituencies in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts on Thursday.
For polling on December 7, CCTV cameras, videography and web casting has been provided at all the polling stations from 7 am to 5 pm. To avoid untoward incidents, police including the BSF and other teams have been pressed into service.
In Nizamabad district, 11.99 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in 1,433 polling stations in Nizamabad urban, Nizamabad rural, Armoor, Balkonda, Bodhan and Banswada Assembly constituencies respectively. Around 5.78 lakh voters in Kamareddy district will exercise their franchise their votes in 740 polling stations in Kamareddy, Yellareddy and Jukkal (SC) segments.
The district administration has identified 338 sensitive polling stations in Nizamabad and 188 polling stations in Kamareddy districts. Steps have been taken to ensure that no untoward incident takes place on polling day in these sensitive polling stations. Nizamabad district election officer, collector M.R.M. Rao said, "Without any inducement or force, voters can franchise their votes".
Kamareddy district election officer, collector N. Satyanarayana on Thursday said that voters can franchise their votes with any one of the 12 types of identity cards including Aadhar, job cards of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. "We have made all arrangements for the fair and smooth conduct of elections in the district" he added.
Meanwhile, election observers of the Election Commission of India are closely monitoring the arrangements made for the elections. The EC officials have verified reception centres for distribution of polling materials including EVMs, VVPATS.
On pre-poll day, vehicle checks intensified at various check posts, inter-state roads and main roads in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts, to check the distribution of cash and liquor.
Students who have been put on election duties in Nizamabad and Kamareddy district have been engaged in web casting at polling stations. There are 745 students in Nizamabad district and 449 students in Kamareddy districts who will be involved on polling day.
Police have promulgated prohibitory orders under section 144 at polling stations to avoid mobs.
