GHMC to reassess lands due to graft

A comprehensive survey with central teams constituted by the retired tax inspectors is being embarked upon.

Hyderabad: The ground staff of the revenue department is in cahoots with property owners thereby furnishing fake assessments that are generating much lesser revenue than expected, state GHMC officials. As such the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to re-assess about 12 lakh residential properties. A comprehensive survey with central teams constituted by the retired tax inspectors is being embarked upon. With this move, the GHMC is expected to increase its revenue through property tax collection by Rs 100 crore annually.

According to the GHMC official, the corporation had recently conducted a comprehensive study by merging its data with departments including registration, electricity and others. The official also said that the GHMC had identified 1.10 lakh properties on pilot basis and found that about 68,000 properties possess commercial electricity connection. Based on this report, the GHMC is planning to conduct a comprehensive survey with the special teams, where the retired tax inspectors will conduct the ground level inspection.

A senior GHMC official from the revenue wing said that the corporation would first select a zone to re-assess all the residential properties in the area and based on the results the reassessment would be conducted in all zones.
