Involve Metropolitan Planning Committee in 2031 Master Plan: NBF

The MPC needs to set right these priorities and plan for a sustainable Bengaluru.

Bengaluru: The Namma Bengaluru Foundation (NBF) and Citizens Action Forum (CAF) have sent a joint letter to all members of the Bangalore Metropolitan Planning Committee (BMPC), reminding them of their role in the preparation of the Master Plan 2031 and the overall planning of the city.

Mr Sridhar Pabbisetty, CEO, NBF said, “Given the haphazard growth of our city in the last few years, what Bengaluru today needs is a proper statutory long-term plan. Matters relating to the planning of the city must be placed before the BMPC, where members have to discuss various projects transparently.

BMPC members have a fundamental duty and obligation towards the city, and thus have to act in support of the right and constitutional process of planning of Bengaluru.”

Mr Vijayan Menon, Committee Member, CAF, said, “The continued neglect of their duties to the Constitution and the electorate by our elected representatives is both depressing and baffling. One would expect them to take their responsibilities in the BPMC a lot more seriously since the future and sustainably of Bengaluru depends on it.”

Ms Kathyayini Chamaraj, Executive Trustee, CIVIC, said, “The state government is concentrating on spending more than Rs 22,000 crores on high-end infrastructure such as elevated corridors for Bengaluru, pandering to private vehicle owners without letting the MPC take these decisions. Disparities between the affluent of Bengaluru and its urban poor are growing inordinately. The MPC needs to set right these priorities and plan for a sustainable Bengaluru.”
