Eyeing upon cashless economy, Maha govt to launch own e-wallet

The state government would launch the e-wallet by the name of 'Mah-Wallet'.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday announced that the state government would launch its own e-wallet by the name of 'Mah-Wallet'.

"The Maharashtra government will bring its own E-wallet system to promote cashless economy with name Mah-Wallet," he said.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched AP Purse mobile app featuring 13 mobile banking and 10 mobile wallet options, in Vijayawada yesterday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that people should choose mobile banking to overcome shortage of small currency, adding they can pay their bills using the app and carry out their cashless transactions.

Stressing upon the need to move towards a cashless economy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier made a strong pitch, especially to the youth, to move to technology-based financial transactions such as e-banking, mobile banking and other facilities such as Unified Payment Interface (UPI) for their daily financial transactions.

"Our dream is that there should be a cashless society. This is correct that 100 percent cashless society is never possible. But we can make a start with less-cash society, then cashless society will not be a far-off destination," he said in his monthly 'Mann Ki Baat' address on November 26.

The Prime Minister made an appeal to the youth to help in nation building by teaching 10 families daily how to conduct cashless transactions through mobile apps, mobile banking and debit/credit cards.
