Thiruvananthapuram: With no incinerator, officials are forced to bury waste

Currently, the authorities are burying the waste inside the premises on a daily basis.

Thiruvananthapuram: With no mechanism in place for disposing the large quantity of non-biodegradable waste including plastic and paper wastes, the authorities of Thycaud Women and Child Hospital are having a tough time implementing the green protocol – which aims at making the campus disposable free. Currently, the authorities are burying the waste inside the premises on a daily basis.

An official said that the hospital doesn’t have an incinerator. “We are planning to install one in the compound. The Kerala Medical Services Corporation Ltd will purchase the equipment. The pollution control board has come up with strict norms for installation of incinerators. We will ensure that the incinerator is procured from an accredited agency,” said the official.

“Burying of waste is not a permanent solution. Segregations of waste is the only way to effective waste management,” said the official.
