Hyderabad: CPI top leaders held an emergency meeting on Tuesday and gave a final ultimatum to the Congress demanding at least five seats to continue in the Mahakutami. In its list submitted to the Congress, it gave a choice of nine constituencies but was willing to settle for five.

The meeting was attended by CPI national general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, former CPI secretary of combined AP K. Narayana and Telangana state CPI secretary Chada Venkata Reddy.

CPI leader K. Narayana said whichever seat they asked for, the Congress was claiming that the Communist party would be defeated in that seat. He asked, “Will the Congress win all seats it contests?”

He said the Mahaku-tami was necessary for the development of Telangana state and with that in view, the CPI had decided to join it. Mr Chada Venkata Reddy said the CPI will continue to part of the Mahakutami only if the Congress should allotted five seats to it.

The CPI wants five seats among Kothagu-dem, Wyra, Husnabad, Bellampalli, Munugo-du, Devarakonda, Man-chiryal, Pinapaka and Alair.  But the Congress is willing to give only three seats.

Mr Chada Venkata Reddy said he would announce later whether he would contest in the Assembly elections. He said the people of Husn-abad assembly constituency were pressing him to contest in the elections. Sources said CPI Secretary D. Raja was in discussions with Congress leaders at Delhi regarding seat adjustments.

The TJS is also dema-nding more seats.  The Congress had allotted Warangal East, Malka-jgiri, Siddipet, Dubba-ka, Medak, Ramagund-am and Chandrayangu-tta to the party, but it wants one more seat.
