Calicut varsity ex-VC T K Ravidran dies

He was the editor of Journal of Indian History and the Journal of Kerala Studies both published by the Kerala University.

Thiruvananthapuram: Former Calicut University vice-chancellor T.K. Ravindran died at 6.45 p.m. at PVS Hospital Kozhikode due to age related diseases on Tuesday. He was the vice chancellor of Calicut University from November 2, 1987 to February 1, 1992. Professor Ravindran was historian, poet and amateur painter. He completed MA, LLB and doctorate from Mumbai University. He was the head of the departments of history in Kerala and Calicut Univesities.

He started his teaching career at Zamorin's Guruvayoorappan College, Kozhikode. He was born in Valappad in Thrissur on October 15, 1932.

He is survived by wife Chandralekha, daughter Preethi and sons Rajiv and Biju. As per information at the time of going to press, the decision was to take his body to the residence of his son Biju in Palakkad this night itself. The time of cremation will be decided later.

He was the editor of Journal of Indian History and the Journal of Kerala Studies both published by the Kerala University.

His historical works are fifteen of which six are in Malayalam. His book Vaikkam Sathyagraha and Gandhi contemplated in the early sixties was a powerful analysis of the caste system.
