Tweet to KT Rama Rao unclogs drains
Hyderabad: Overflowing drains have become a familiar sight for the residents of Vittal Rao Nagar, Madhapur.
Frustrated with having to avoid the dirty water every day, a resident Joydeep Dey used Twitter to bring the problem to notice of municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao.
Responding to the tweet, the minister tagged the official Twitter account of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board and wrote: “Attend to this immediately” (sic).
Speaking to this newspaper, Mr Dey said, “This is a recurring issue and this time, the situation is really bad. The problem also includes total flooding of the area during the monsoon. The path for the water to flow has been blocked by Fresh Living Apartments”
He noted that officials do only temporary fixes by de-clogging the drains. Mr Dey requested a permanent fix and an overhaul of the drainage system. “The overflow issue has been rectified and work is in progress to fix the issue on a permanent basis,” said a GHMC official.
