Tipu Sultan an opportunist, was paid to fight British: Subramanian Swamy

Subramanian Swamy maintained on Monday that all claims of Tipu being a warrior, who fought for the country's Independence, were entirely false.

Belagavi: Calling Mysuru king, Tipu Sultan an “opportunist,” who fought the British only because he was “paid” to do so by the French, Rajya Sabha MP, Subramanyam Swamy, maintained on Monday that all claims of Tipu being a warrior, who fought for the country’s Independence, were entirely false.

Mr Swamy, who was in Belagavi to deliver a lecture on “Intellectural terrorism” organised by Prabudha Bharat, also condemned the statements of Tamil superstar, Kamal Haasan on Hindu terror, saying issues like Hindu terrorism were being raised by some who were not getting opportunities anymore to act in films.

“We are prepared to give him security if he is facing a threat to his life. But his controversial statements only make people believe he is making them to appease the Congress party,” he added.

Asserting that both Congress president, Sonia Gandhi and vice-president, Rahul Gandhi would be jailed in the National Herald case, he alleged that the newspaper’s assets worth Rs 5,000 crore were bought for Rs 90 crore by Young India, and even worse, it had failed to return a Rs 50 lakh loan taken from the Congress party.

“Former Finance Minister, P Chidambaram and his son too will join the Gandhis in jail,” he claimed. Accusing the Congress party of trying to appease the minorities by splitting Hindus in the name of reservations, he claimed the RSS and BJP were on the contrary trying to unite people.

As for the Ram Mandir issue, Mr Swamy was confident that a temple would be built in Ayodhya as the Shia community, which owned the old mosque, had given its consent to build it.
