Tamil Nadu: Online registration to gather steam
Chennai: In a move to digitalizing the process of registering properties, marriages and associations, the state registration department working on to introduce paperless online registration system from end of this month. The department has already implemented the online registration system in its 152 sub-registrars offices of 575 sub-registrar offices. “The new procedure will enable the easy and transparent process in registering properties,” said a higher official privy to the development.
The online system will enable public with fast and easy registration. The public can arrange their appointment with registration officials through the Internet. “First the public will be asked to upload documents of their property, certificates, in case of other purposes. All the documents will be verified through Internet,” added the official.
The registration department conducted training sessions for the department officials to teach them new procedures. Also, the department also asked to start register at least one property through the Internet. “Online registration is made mandatory in 152 sub-registrar offices. To create awareness on using this new facility, we have asked all sub-registrar offices to register at least one property. So that they would be well versed in the new method,” J. Kumaragurubaran, inspector general of registration said.
“This is a welcome move. But some corrupt officials may hinder the online process, as they cannot indulge in bribery thereafter. If public show keen interest against corruption, the initiative will fructify,” said C. Selvaraj, general secretary, Federation of Anti-Corruption Team – India.
