SHE teams help keep streets in safe mode

Over the past three years, the SHE Team has nabbed 1,464 persons red-handed and solved 3,516 cases.

Hyderabad: Harassment of women at educational institutions, parks, bus stops and railway stations are recorded by the SHE Team every day. Over the past three years, the SHE Team has nabbed 1,464 persons red-handed and solved 3,516 cases.

“Our teams are recording the crime through a discreet camera,” said Kavitha, ACP of SHE Team. The cases are registered on video evidence and the complaints put up on social media, helpline numbers (Dial 100 or 1098) and direct walkins.

The SHE Team had apprehended 363 minors and 1,101 adults for stalking (32 per cent), passing lewd remarks (20 per cent), harassment over phone (20 per cent) and inappropriate touching (3 per cent).

The age group of the accused ranges from 21 to 40 years who constitute 44 per cent, while people in the age group of 18 to 20 years account for 28 per cent.
ACP Kavitha said that the accused persons are counselled in the presence of their parents.

“It springs from our patriarchal society where a child grows up looking at his mother and how she is treated by the father. The movie culture also adds up. It is seen as a sign of heroic act to harass women and girls,” said the ACP.

According to Dr Diana Monteiro, counselling psychologist, “It is the responsibility of parents to make the gender equality aware from the beginning.”
