Man tries to end life at CM Siddaramaiah's event

He was whisked away from the Soudha premises.

Bengaluru: There was high drama at Vidhana Soudha on Monday when a frustrated KPSC aspirant, tried to commit suicide by consuming poison while the Kanaka Jayanti programme, attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was on.

Soon after the CM arrived, Parashurama, who hails from Mysuru, flashed a bottle of poison and started shouting slogans demanding justice. After being apprehended by the cops, he told them that he had met the CM and had given a representation but in vain. He was whisked away from the Soudha premises.

Speaking at the function, Mr Siddaramaiah said there was no need to politicise the celebration of the birth anniversaries of great personalities by the government.

"We need to remember those who worked for social reforms and laid down their lives for the country. Unless society is reformed, the caste system will not be eliminated," he said.

Taking a dig at the opposition BJP’s ongoing Parivarthana Yatra and the JD(S)’ Kumara Parva, the CM said it was the ‘communal BJP’ which had to reform first. “They(JD-S) talk about 'Kumara Parva' to project their achievements. They have only achieved for themselves while people know our achievements,” he quipped.
