Telangana govt to check chemicals in bio-products

Telangana govt has also decided to set up a lab to check the quality of bio-products sold in the market.

Hyderabad: The TS government has decided to launch an awareness campaign and inspection besides enacting legislation to check the sale of defective bio-products which is putting farmers to loss. It has also decided to set up a lab to check the quality of bio-products sold in the market.

Agriculture secretary C. Parthasarathi held a meeting with agriculture department officials and senior scientists on the measures to be taken to prevent farmers from falling prey to chemical based bio-products, including some of Chinese make.

“The secretary felt that a massive awareness campaign among the farming community was needed. He has decided to instruct collectors to convene meeting with dealers and instruct them to supply genuine bio-products,” an official said.

He instructed the agriculture department commissioner to form special task force teams and conduct inspections of bio-products producing centres and submit a detailed report to the government.

He said spurious and defective bio-products will be listed out and informed to the farmers after the inspection. Officials said though cases are booked on the companies supplying defective bio products, they are escaping from law due to loopholes in the Act. Courts also held that bio-products do not fall under the law covering pesticides and fertilisers.
