Tipu Jayanthi: Police on high alert in Kodagu
Mysuru: With opposition to the celebration of Tipu Jayanti on November 10 in Kodagu gaining momentum, the police are on a high alert. The celebrations last year had witnessed large-scale violence leaving an RSS worker dead.
Police have issued notices to 900 rowdy-sheeters and goondas. In Mysuru too, police have booked cases against 47 goondas, ‘communal goondas’ and rowdy sheeters as a precautionary measure.
According to Kodagu SP P. Rajendraprasad, “Notices are being issued even to those who were involved in communal violence during Tipu Jayanti last year. On Tipu Jayanti day, we are installing four CCTV cameras near all checkposts. Apart from the existing 1,000 policemen in the city, an additional 3000 policemen will be deployed.”
Even in Mysuru, according to Police Commissioner Dr A. Subramanyeswara Rao, apart from 40 CCTV cameras, each station is deploying an additional four cameras in sensitive areas.
