People unite to fight drugs in Kozhikode
Kozhikode: A human chain was formed on Sunday to spread the awareness about the use of drugs in the society, in particular among the youngsters.
Excise commissioner Rishi Raj Singh opened the human chain spread from villages in Wayanad to Kozhikode, organised by Social Reforms and Empowerment through Dare and Honest Activities (SREDHA).
The commissioner said mothers should be more alert for their children not falling into the trap of the luring drug mafia. They can detect the changes in children very soon and guide them, he added.
The department seized nearly 1 lakh kilogramme of ganja in the last five months, the commissioner said in Nadavayal, in a programme organised by YMCA.
In Kozhikode alone, a 11-km human chain was formed from south Kodiyathur moving through Chullikkaparamba, Thenangaparamba, Pannikkode, Mavayi, Nellikkaparamba, Valiyaparamba, Karuthaparamba, Karassery and Kakkad.
The idea to form a human chain started after many attempts to create awareness at the grassroots level failed, said the organisers. They believe even the treatment at the deaddiction centres is not equipped to bring the youngsters back to normal life from the deep-rooted drug mafia.
