Telangana High Court adjourns plea over RTC strike

Alleging that the petitioner was a proxy of the RTC trade unions, the AG asked the bench not to grant any order.

Hyderabad: The High Court told the transport department and the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) to ensure that people are not inconvenienced by the RTC staff strike.

A division bench comprising Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy and Justice Abhishek Reddy was dealing with a PIL moved as a house motion by Mr Surendra Singh, a research scholar of Osmania University, seeking direction to the government and RTC staff unions to call off the strike. Mr P.V. Krishnaiah, counsel for the petitioner, told the court that people were facing hardships to reach their homes for the Bathukamma and Dasara festivals. He said the government’s alternative arrangements could not meet the requirements of the commuters.

Advocate General (AG), B.S. Prasad, submitted that the government had arranged 10,000 buses, including private and school buses, to transport passengers. The RTC was recruiting trained drivers and was running 1,000 more buses than the RTC does normally.

Alleging that the petitioner was a proxy of the RTC trade unions, the AG asked the bench not to grant any order.

Pointing out the petitioner’s objection on the alternative arrangements, the bench asked the advocate general and the RTC unions to file their counter affidavits and adjourned the hearing to October 10.
