Hyderabad: Dharani Lake foaming once again
Hyderabad: For the fourth year in a row, foam has begun forming on the Pariki Cheruvu in Kukatpally. No solution has yet been found to this foaming, which started in 2016.
Residents of the area say measures taken by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the State Pollution Control Board are an eyewash. What is irritating is that the foam also enters the houses nearby. Abhinav Reddy, a resident of Dharaninagar, said, “The foam forms over the Pariki Cheruku every time it rains. This is the sixth or the seventh time that we have seen foam forming over the lake. Officials just put some anti-foaming agent and leave. But the foam forms soon after it rains again. Not concrete measure has been taken so far.” Another resident, Nivas, pointed out that authorities have put up large plastic nets on two sides of the lake, as though that would prevent the foam from entering houses. In spite of giving several representations, no permanent solution has been found. Nivas said the authorities have assured them that they would minimise the damage, while claiming that there is no solution across the globe to prevent frothing on water bodies.
