Government planning to shut RTC, says Joint Action Committee
HYDERABAD: The Joint Action Committee of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation has announced that an indefinite hunger strike camp will be started at Indira Park from Monday, while the stir will continue till the RTC is merged with the state government.
Speaking at a round-table conference of Opposition parties and trade unions on Sunday, JAC convener Ashvatthama Reddy charged that the state government wants to shut down TSRTC as part of a plan to grab lands worth hundreds of crores belonging to the corporation.
He alleged that the benami of a TRS MP has already been allotted four acres of RTC land through a tender, while some other party leaders are trying to get lands beside Bus Bhavan at RTC crossoads on lease for their henchmen.
The JAC convener wondered why Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was objecting to the merger of the RTC with the state government when he could allow 12 Congress MLAs to merge with the ruling party. He asserted that the strike of RTC employees has the capacity to bring down the government run by KCR and ensure that he would not be able to come back to power again.
Mr Ashvatthama Reddy questioned the authority of transport minister, P. Ajay Kumar, in announcing the dismissal of the RTC staff participating in the strike.
He claimed that their strike is focused on saving the RTC, not on financial emoluments.
