Karnataka to High Court: Draft rules on private school fees notified

In the draft rules, the state government has revised the fee that private unaided schools can collect.

BENGALURU: The State Government on Thursday submitted to the High Court that they have notified draft rules to amend some of the rules in the Karnataka Educational Institutions (Regulation of certain fees and Donations) Rules, 1999. It further submitted that an insertion was also made to the Karnataka Education Institutions (Classification, Regulation and Prescription of curricula etc) Rules, 1995.

In the draft rules, the state government has revised the fee that private unaided schools can collect. One of the highlights is the cap on the maximum fee. In the draft rules over the new amendment, the expenditure in the previous year has to be taken into account and the expected cost escalation in the new academic year. In addition, the special development fee has been raised to Rs 2,500 from Rs 600.
