Kochi: Power to students on Teachers’ Day

The students also honoured the teachers in a function held at the evening.

WAYANAD: Students becoming teachers and heads of various departments as well as the institution, for one day, signing crucial documents, taking major decisions and ensuring the order of the campus. Organised in connection with the Teachers’ Day on Thursday, the leading lights of Nilgiri Arts and Science College, Thaloor, near here, decided to step down for one day allowing the students to feel the fire of responsibility.

It was a novel and unique experience for the campus as all the key portfolios and teaching assignments were handed over to students on this auspicious day, said the management in a press release. Students took over the complete control of the campus by taking the reins of offices of secretary, principal, academic dean, academic coordinator, administrator, heads of various departments and also the chairs of assistant professors, for the entire day.

On the day Ms Hasna Femin, a B Sc student took the chair of Rashid Gazzali, the secretary and Managing Director of the institution whereas Hepziba Johnson (M Com) donned the role of principal. The academic dean Prof Mohan Babu had to step down for a day for the student Manu Joseph (B A English).

“The college introduced this innovative initiative to make the students realise the efforts and sacrifice behind running the institution and handling the classes”, said Rashid Gazzali, secretary of the institution.

The student-secretary of the day sanctioned the proposal to set up smart class rooms and renovate library, in front of the audience those included the representatives from management, academic authorities, PTA, well-wishers and students. The students also honoured the teachers in a function held at the evening.
