Karwar: With the Sharavathi in spate after release of water from the Gersoppa dam, around 336 people from 137 families have been shifted to temporary rehabilitation centres in Honnavar.
The Linganamakki reservoir in the district, which has filled up in the heavy rainfall over the Sharavathi catchment area over the last few days, has been releasing its excess water, which is in turn filling up the Gersoppa dam situated downstream of it, forcing it to also release its water.
Taking no chances, the Uttara Kannada district administration has shifted 336 people to 10 rehabilitation centers set up in various places in Honnavar taluk and appointed a nodal officer to monitor the flood situation in the district.
