Hyderabad: Posh Tolichowki too faces mosquito woes
Hyderabad: Colonies in Tolichowki are considered posh and affluent but the residents face a lot of problems due to mosquitoes.
Quba Colony, Alhasnath Colony, Gulshan Colony, Samtha Colony, Balreddy Nagar Colony, Neraja Colony, MD Lines, Diamond Hills and other areas are reeling under the mosquito menace. When the sun sets, swarms of mosquitoes enter homes and people have a tough time closing doors and lighting mosquito repellants.
Mr Mohammed Abdul Mannan, an Industrialist who resides in Balreddy Nagar Colony, said “Mosquitoes here have become resilient and developed immunity from the regular repellents and insecticides. People are now forced to use mosquito nets.”
Well-to-do families get mosquito control treatment which lasts for 45 days. The middle classes and the poor people depend on preventive measures like keeping doors and windows closed before dusk, using mosquito nets and repellent sticks at night.
Web designer Mohammed Mansoor, a resident of Alhasnath Colony, said “Our area is surrounded by many ponds which are the main sources of the breeding of mosquitoes.” He said the number of mosquitoes in Tolichowki beats the Chinese population. “The attendance of our children in schools is lower than those in other areas as our children become ill twice or thrice a year,” he said.
