Bengaluru: Baby girl gets electrocuted in under-construction building

The owner of the building Mahesh Babu is booked under 304(A) of Indian Penal Code (Causing Death Due to Negligence).

Bengaluru: A one-and-half-year-old girl got electrocuted at a temporary shed in an under-construction building in Vishvapriya Layout in Begur police station limits.

The deceased has been identified as Renukamma, daughter of Lakshmana and Ulagamma, natives of Surpur in Yadgir district. The couple had three children and Renukamma was the youngest.

Both Lakshmana and Ulagamma had moved to Bengaluru recently and were working at an under-construction building owned by Mahesh Babu and staying in temporary shed in the same land.

After finishing work on Thursday, the couple moved into house and locked the door as it was raining. According to police, the shed had an iron door and an electricity meter box was in close proximity and an electricity wire passed for a bulb.

As the wire passes above the door, it had got damaged due to the frequent opening and closing of the door.

On Thursday evening, the wire got damaged and a portion of it came in contact with the door. When Renukama, who was playing inside the shed, tried to open the door she got electrocuted. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead, the police said.

The police who rushed to the spot inspected the shed and found that no safety measures were taken. A case has been registered under 304(A) of Indian Penal Code (Causing Death Due to Negligence) and the owner of the building Mahesh Babu, contractor and the engineer have been booked.
