Arif Mohammed Khan takes oath in Malayalam
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala High Court Chief Justice Hrishikesh Roy administered the oath of office to Arif Mohammad Khan, who was appointed as the 22nd Governor of the state, at Raj Bhavan here on Friday.
Mr Khan succeeded Justice (Rtd) P. Sathasivam. Mr Sathasivam left for Chennai after being the Governor for five years since 2014.
Mr Khan took oath in Malayalam in the name of God. The new governor with little knowledge of the language studied it for the purpose.
Earlier, chief secretary Tom Jose invited Mr Khan to take oath as part of the ceremonial gesture after reading out the order of the President appointing the latter as Governor.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, ministers E.P. Jayarajan, T.M. Thomas Isaac, A.K. Balan, Kadakampally Sure-ndran, Ramachandran Kadannappally and K.T. Jaleel and BJP MLA O. Rajagopal attended the function.
Reshma Arif, wife of Khan also attended the event held at the Raj Bhavan auditorium.
