THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the spurt in dengue cases in various parts of the state, the health authorities have tightened their belts to deal with the situation. The district medical officers have been directed to take extensive measures to check the spread of dengue in various parts of the state.
According to officials in directorate of health services, over 3400 dengue cases have been confirmed in the state so far and the number of suspected cases had crossed 12000.
Since August 1, 35 deaths have reported in the state which is a cause of concern. The authorities have decided to undertake a massive campaign to keep dengue under check. Inter sectoral meetings involving ma-jor departments including KWA, irrigation and public health, railways, KSRTC, local self government department, fisheries and agriculture would be held in the coming days.
The health department teams along with corporation staff would visit vulnerable areas for carrying out sector study, high vector index areas and follow it up with vector control and source reduction activities.
The officials have been asked to supervise the anti dengue operations in the coastal areas. Besides, the health department would also involve volunteers, residents associations and NGOs for creating awareness among the people....
