Kanam Rajendran wants fests to go on

Kanam said there were some practical difficulties in shelving the state school youth festival and International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).

THIRUVNANTHAPURAM: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran on Thursday said he expected the government to reconsider its decision to shelve youth festival and film festival.

Kanam said there were some practical difficulties in shelving the state school youth festival and International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). "I hope the state government will consider all these practical difficulties and take appropriate decisions at the right time,” he added.

The CPI leader called for environment friendly approach while rebuilding Kerala. Many encroachments which sub collector could not remove in Munnar, were washed away by floods, he said while indirectly taking a dig at “big brother” CPM.

He said the rebuilding activities in Idukki district should not take place in the encroached areas which had been washed away by the floods. The government should go ahead with the promise made in the LDF manifesto that all development activities would be with an environment and people friendly approach.
The CPI state council approved the report of inquiry commission which probed the allegations against Waynad district secretary.

The commission found that the allegations were baseless and false with the aim to deliberately tarnish the image of the party. Kanam said the CPM would find a solution to the allegations of sexual abuse against P.K. Sasi MLA. CPI does not have the habit of interfering in the internal issues of other parties. CPM is a party which has dealt with complaints of similar nature in the past, he added.

The party will organise padayatras in 168 mandalam committees’ agaisnt the ‘anti-people' policies of the central government. Meetings will be held in all the party booth committees in Lok Sabha constituencies.
