Telangana: Many students opt for dual courses

They feel that this can save time and can increase their skills in a limited period of time.

Hyderabad: Students today are pampered with choices. Apparently, they face the problem of plenty. Smart among them are clubbing different courses to complete them at one go. They feel that this can save time and can increase their skills in a limited period of time.

With the law becoming one of the most sought-after careers, there are many who burn the midnight oil on the company secretary (CS) course along with LLB.

Mr P.K. Singh, faculty member at the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, said, “Students prefer to have an additional professional qualification these days. The CS course has its roots in law. Besides, the CS exams are conveniently timed. Despite being well-versed in law, a company secretary cannot represent a case in the court. That is the reason why students are opting for this dual degree.”

Begging to be different, educational experts, on the other hand, said that students are pursuing dual courses to increase their employability. Chartered accounts fit into this category. Most of them pursue a degree course along with their CA course due to unpredictable nature of the professional course.

Mr Dheeraj Rajaram, a chartered account, said, “I pursued my B.Com along with my CA. I had to write only the language exam because of a tie-up between the university and the Institute of Chartered Accountants. It is to keep one’s future secure and there is no loss of time.”

Indian Institutes of Technology has been following the dual degree system which has many takers. A faculty member of IIT-H said, “We provide dual degrees in computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, building science and engineering, among others.”
