Hyderabad: The design of the proposed new Secretariat building to come up at the Bison Polo Ground is now ready and the foundation stone will be laid during the Dasara festival. Minister of roads and buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao told Deccan Chronicle that according to the blueprint of the building plan approved by the state government, the structure will have three floors, with the offices of the Chief Minister and his Cabinet ministers on the third floor.
Secretaries will be accommodated on the second floor and heads of departments on the ground floor. There will also be conference halls and Cabinet meeting halls.
Tummala: Secretariat will have facilities like PMO
Brushing aside criticism from opposition parties for the necessity of a new building at the Bison Polo Ground, R&B minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said, “We have selected it after a large exercise. The location has good road and train connectivity. The general public can easily reach here from JBS and Secunderabad Railway Station. It is a historic decision that a secretariat will have all facilities like a Prime Minister’s office. The new secretariat building will become a role model for other states,” Mr Rao declared.
Explaining the need for a new building, he said, “More than 100 government offices are in private buildings and they are not easily accessed by the common man. Some are in the eastern part of the city and some in other places. All these offices will be shifted to the new secretariat. It will be more convenient for the common man and we will save public money that goes on rents,” he said.
The secretariat building will be constructed on 10 to 12 acres of land. The Legislative Assembly and Council, and Kalabhavan will occupy the remaining 38 acres.
