Tamil Nadu: Groping cop caught on tape
Coimbatore: It is not yet clear whether it was by accident or intent. Video clips of a police officer allegedly groping a woman sub-inspector while controlling a crowd during a students' anti-Neet protest in Coimbatore, flashed by some television channels on Wednesday, have sent shock waves among women activists and protesters here.
The CPI (M)-affiliated All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) today promptly petitioned the Coimbatore police commissioner, demanding action against the police officer who was seen groping a woman sub-inspector on duty during the protests here. A group of women led by AIDWA district secretary Ms. Radhika met the CoP and handed over a petition condemning the action.
The AIDWA petition said that few days ago students had gathered near Gandhipuram to protest against the 'Neet' exam when cops arrested them. A scuffle between police and students ensued at the venue and in controlling the situation, an assistant commissioner of police was seen fondling a woman SI as he was trying to bring the situation under control. It was bit of embarrassment, as the woman SI in the visuals repeatedly attempted to ward off the officer's hands.
Sources told DC that it was not yet clear who had video-graphed the unfortunate incident, but it has already gone viral on social media. However, the woman SI has not yet taken up the issue with her higher-ups or the Coimbatore top cop, sources said. Receiving the petition, the CoP, Mr A. Amalraj promised to take necessary action.
