Only Stalin desperate for polls in Tamil Nadu: D Jayakumar
Chennai: Finance minister D. Jayakumar on Wednesday took a dig at Opposition Leader M.K. Stalin for his comments that elections are round the corner in Tamil Nadu, saying he is the only person who is “desperate for polls” in the state.
Speaking to reporters here, the Minister asserted that the AIADMK Government would continue till its tenure ends in 2021 and “none can destabilise” the dispensation installed by late J. Jayalalithaa.
“Nothing will happen to this government. Come what may, this government will complete its five-year tenure in 2021 and will come back to power. The government has been democratically elected and none– be it MLAs or the public— want elections now. It is only Stalin who wants snap polls,” Jayakumar said.
He was responding to questions on Stalin’s prediction that Tamil Nadu would witness snap polls as the Edappadi K. Palaniswami Government has lost its majority.
Jayakumar said the government had the support of required number of legislators and that there was no problem with its functioning. “It is only Stalin who is dreaming of elections and his dream would not come true in the near future,” the Minister said.
