Gauri Lankesh cheered Malayalis in last tweet

Praising Onam, she wanted Malayalis to keep up the tradition of secularism.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: One of the last tweets of Gauri Lankesh was a retweet of Shashi Tharoor MP’s Facebook post depicting Thiruvathira dance by a group of nuns.

Praising Onam, she wanted Malayalis to keep up the tradition of secularism. Referring to the picture of nuns performing Thiruvathira, she said in her tweet; “Keralites celebrating Onam.Religious differences be damned !!!!! this is the reason why they call their ‘country' (i call it country, did you notice cheddis??) as ‘Gods own country'. She asked her Malayali friends to keep up their spirit of secularism and hoped to visit Kerala soon. “Hopefully next time I am in God's own country, someone will get me nice Kerala beef dish!!!! And cheddis be damned!!!!)

Her reaction was to Shashi Tharoor’s Facebook post; “This is what makes Kerala God's Own Country! Christian sisters performing Thiruvathirakali (a Hindu group dance) is not a rare sight in Kerala during Onam; it celebrates the spirit of oneness and prosperity.”

Soon after her brutal killing on Tuesday, Tharoor tweeted; “I never knew #GauriLankesh but she shared my @Facebook post on #Onam a few hours before she was killed. Deeply sad.” By Wednesday evening Gauri Lankesh's tweet posted on Tharoor's Facebeook page received more than 6600 likes and was shared by 614 users.
