Civic officials ill prepared for Chandrababu Naidu visit

Lackadaisical approach irks collector, asks officials to buckle up.

Rajahmundry: Confusion prevailed among officials ahead of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s scheduled visit to Rajahmundry to take part in Jala Harathi programme on the banks of river Godavari for the inauguration of the municipal corporation building and Urban SP office building on Thursday.

Collector Karthikeya Misra arrived here to inspect the arrangements made for the inauguration of the municipal corporation office building constructed at a cost of Rs 20 crore. The collector faced some embarrassing moments as he was forced to wait for several minutes while the officials struggled to open the locked council hall.

To top it, the lack of power supply forced officials were forced to take the stairs to reach the third floor. Once the Collector reached the third floor, the council hall was found locked. The civic officials struggled hard to find out where the keys were kept for nearly 20 minutes. Finally, a civic official arrived with a bunch of keys and started trying one key after the other.

The Collector wondered whether the officials would ask the CM to use the stairs when he arrives to inaugurate the building and expressed his displeasure on the lack of coordination among officials.

Similarly, the middle of the three gates at Pushkar ghat was found locked. The CM is supposed to take that gate to enter the Pushkar ghat to offer Jala Harathi on Thursday evening.

There was confusion here too regarding where the keys were kept. Police personnel shifted the blame upon one another claiming jurisdictional control of the location of middle gate of the Pushkar ghat while the endowments officials made excuses claiming that their senior officer was attending another important project.

The CM will inaugurate Rajahmundry Urban District Police office built at a cost of Rs 14 crore, CID office constructed at a cost of Rs 3.45 crore and the municipal corporation office taken up at a cost of Rs 20 crore.
