TRS scoffs at TD's demand to stop creation of new districts

There is growing opposition against Hanamkonda district.

Hyderabad: The TS on Tuesday demanded a halt to the formation of new districts till delimitation of Assembly constituencies is completed, even as the Congress continued its demand for Gadwal, Jangaon and other districts, besides realignment of some mandals. However, TRS leaders, including minister T. Srinivas Yadav and MLC Karne Prabhakar hit back at the critics of the new districts proposals, saying that they were being carved out for administrative convenience after a thorough exercise and had the mandate of the people.

“Why did the Opposition not raise Gadwal and Jangaon district and other related issues at the all-party meet? If the Opposition leaders continue to create obstacles, they will have to go to jail,” Mr Yadav warned. TD MLA A. Revanth Reddy questioned the haste in carving out new districts. “The CM had said in the Assembly that reorganisation of districts would be done only after delimitation of constituencies. Why is he in a hurry to carve out new districts?” Mr Reddy wondered.

Congress Gadwal MLA D.K. Aruna and former PCC president Ponnala Laxmaiah are pitching for Gadwal and Jangoan districts, the demand for Sircilla district continues and there is growing opposition against Hanamkonda district.
