Rains: Bus services to Mumbai, Goa cancelled

Several stranded passengers are panic-stricken and they are unable to contact their near and dear ones due to disruption of phone networks.

Bengaluru: With incessant rains and flood like situation prevailing in parts of North Karnataka and Maharashtra, major bus operators have either suspended their services or changed the routes.

About three SRS Travels buses on the way to Maharashtra and Goa got stranded for a day in Kolhapur following heavy rains for the past four days. The three buses had started from the city on Sunday for Mumbai, Pune and Goa carrying about 120 passengers. They are not in a position to move and passengers have been housed in the lodges in Kolhapur, said a SRS Travels representative on Tuesday. Following this, SRS Travels has suspended its bus services to Mumbai, Goa, Belagavi, Karwar and Shivamogga for the past two days.

Several stranded passengers are panic-stricken and they are unable to contact their near and dear ones due to disruption of phone networks. There were even cases of passengers losing their cool. However, the buses to Kodagu and Kerala are continuing their services, a SRS representative told Deccan Chronicle.

VRL Travels on Tuesday suspended its bus services to Goa, but they are continuing their services to Mumbai and Pune and the buses are taking an alternate route. They are going via Jalki, Sholapur and Pune, a VRL representative said.

Partially cancelled

Lokmanya Tilak Terminus –Coimbatore Express commencing journey from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus on Tuesday was originated from Pune instead of Lokmanya Tilak Terminus.

Trains cancelled, rescheduled

Following heavy rains and water logging in Mumbai Division of Central Railway, trains towards North Karnataka and Maharashtra have been cancelled, partially cancelled and diverted, South Western Railway officials in Hubballi said.

The following trains have been cancelled: Dadar–Tirunelveli Chalukya Express commencing its journey from Dadar on Tuesday; Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus–Coimbatore Express from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus on Wednesday; Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Vijayapura Fast Passenger from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus on Tuesday; and Vijayapura-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Fast Passenger commencing journey from Vijayapura on Wednesday.

Diverted

The Udaipur–Mysuru Humsafar Express commencing journey from Udaipur on Aug 5 ran on the diverted route via Surat, Jalgaon, Manmad, Daund, Pune instead of Surat, Vasai Road, Lonavala, Pune. The Gandhidham–KSR Bengaluru Express from Gandhidham on Aug 6 travelled via the diverted route of Surat, Jalgaon, Manmad, Daund, Pune instead of Surat, Vasai Road, Lonavala, Pune.
