Nizamabad: Pilot project takes off

Nizamabad city chosen for pre-Census 2021.

Nizamabad: Nizamabad Municipal Corporation was chosen for the pilot project of Census-2021. The teams will begin collecting census on August 12 in Nizamabad city limits. Usually, census of 2021 will begin in April, 2020, and will complete by March, 2021. Instead of this, officials will conduct pre-census process on a pilot basis in the city.

On Tuesday, census teams were constituted and training would be imparted to the members till August 9. Two divisions were chosen for the census programme in Nizamabad Municipal Corporation.

Over 10 teams were formed with teachers and anganwadi workers. As many as 96 enumerators and 10 supervisors will collect information from the people.

At present, Nizamabad city has 3,11,152 population, including 1,54,929 men and 1,56,223 women. It is believed that city population might touch 5-lakh mark by the time census collection would be complete.

People from surrounding villages and neighbouring Maharashtra state migrated to Nizamabad city, either in search of livelihood or for educational requirements.

Nizamabad municipal commissioner D. John Samson is supervising the census process in the city. After reorganisation, the number of municipal divisions has increased to 60 from the earlier 50. In the last few years, many people from Bodhan, Bhainsa in Nirmal district, Bhokar, Biloli of Nanded districts settled in Nizamabad, leading to a rise in the population in the town. Interestingly, Nizamabad city has highest number of women population. Of the 3.11 lakh population, 1.54 lakh are men 1.56 lakh are women.

On the other hand, the population of Muslim minorities is also sizeable in the city. Former municipal corporator Muqeet said that Muslim population is around 35 per cent in the city. Due to migrations, the number has increased in recent times, he added.
