Light to moderate rainfall expected in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh: IMD

Hyderabad: With the depression at the northwest of Bay of Bengal remaining stationary, the two Telugu states will continue to receive light to moderate rains at most places, the IMD said on Tuesday, The IMD, which expects the depression to intensify in the next 24 hours, in a warning, stated that “heavy to very heavy rain” is expected only at isolated places in Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the wrath of the intensified depression would mostly be seen in Odisha and Chattisgarh. The two states will receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next couple of days.

For the two Telugu states, IMD said that the depression would have a moderate effect. Several districts in the Telangana state including, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Kothagudem and others received heavy rains of upto 70mm.

However, the overall rainfall received in the state was only 12.1 mm as an average.

In the past 24 hours, short spells of light to moderate rain occurred in most places of the state. But it wasn’t enough to bring the rainfall deficit below 2 per cent.

The city has also received light to moderate rainfall, the areas including Malkajgiri and surrounding areas received a rainfall of 9.7mm. The core city has received only 4.6mm of rainfall.
