Kollam: Organs of a youth who had met with an accident at the Kollam bypass have given new lives for three people suffering from life-threatening diseases.

Akhilesh, 22, of Abhilash Bhavan at Kuttichira in Karikode met with the accident on Friday night following which he was brain dead on Sunday.

A motorcycle he was riding collided with a car at Palkulangara junction along the bypass leaving grave injuries on his head.

He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Kollam and then to another in Thiruvananthapuram. After he was declared brain dead, relatives permitted organ donation.

His organs, including eyes, liver, and kidneys, were donated under 'Mritasanjeevani' project initiated by the state government to promote organ donation after the incidence of brain death.

Akhilesh is the youngest son of Ullas and Anitha. He was a prodigy in painting and bodybuilding and had also tested his talent in storyboard drawing in movies.

"We took the decision as our son's organs will be a relief for others, which is a kind act we can do on his behalf," his father said.
