Kamal Haasan willing to team up with Rajinikanth for polls
Chennai: Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) party chief Kamal Haasan has renewed his appeal to superstar Rajinikanth to team up for the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, declaring it would be a sure political hit “if ‘I’ becomes We”. This latest utterance had happened on the Big Boss show but the channel had chopped it off.
MNM spokesman Murali Appas has posted the text, along with the deleted clip, while expressing anguish why it was deleted in the show, where Kamal as anchor responds to a question from show participant and filmmaker Cheran on poll alliance. The Murali post has gone viral.
Cheran on the show impersonates Rajini and asks: “We have both travelled in cine world for 40 years and have satisfied the audience as much as possible, as actor. You have now taken the political plunge and I am yet to do that. And when I take the plunge, can we be able to satisfy the people's aspirations, as political leaders”.
Anchor Kamal quickly transforms into MNM politico and pat comes the reply: “It’s a fact that they (people) expect that both of us are talking like this. If you ask me if it's possible, it surely is if we try and work with dedication. I shall say this to this Rajini (Cheran) and I shall say this to that Rajini as well if he comes”.
The last time Kamal had expressed desire to team up politically with Rajini was during the run up to the Lok Sabha elections, when the superstar remained non-committal. The MNM, nevertheless, did well for a newcomer garnering four per cent votes and even placing third in some urban constituencies.
Sources say Rajini is getting things ready “down to the village block level” for a launch of his party early next year, which could be an ‘upgrade’ of his Rajinikanth Makkal Mandram. It remains to be seen if he will accept Kamal’s invite or choose a saffron alliance.
