Former banker makes a dent with ‘No Filters’ in cartooning

Thiruvananthapuram: Political cartoons are usually satirical, filled with grotesque caricatures parodying those in and out of power, but the cartoon exhibition by A.Satheesh, former SBI chief manager, wanted to try something different.

No Filters, the four-day cartoon exhibition at KCS Panicker Hall, Museum, Trivandrum exhibited a range of political and satirical caricatures of 60 candidates belonging to the LDF, UDF and NDA in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

The cartoons exhibited deems with professionalism and the cartoonists' dedication and love for the art is evident. Visitors were welcomed with a work adjudged the best at the recent Lalithakala Academy Awards.

The free exhibition features over 150 cartoons that he had drawn during the little extracted time from his busy career. He would like to spend his post-retirement career devoted to cartooning.

The exhibition is evidence that as long as there are politicians and political problems to be resolved, cartoonists like Satheesh will be there to examine, parody and challenge it in a more accessible way and thought-provoking.

The visual treat has been visited and acknowledged by several eminent personalities and politicians, including Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan.

The exhibition presents a retrospective of the best cartoons drawn by Satheesh during his 37 years' course of his far-reaching banking career.

Kerala's inclination towards the depiction of relevant and serious issues in satirical forms has established a solid base for this cartoonist. Be it the election campaigning tactics of leaders, controversies and conflicts through which our politicians have undergone, Sabarimala issue; everything holds a position in the exhibition.

The cartoons contain funny dialogues associated with incidents or controversies from their political career. I.B. Satheesh MLA inaugurated the exhibition titled 'Nerum Varayum'.
